Biography
Mairead Kiely PhD MRIA is a Professor in Human Nutrition at University College Cork, Ireland. She is co-director of the Cork Centre for Vitamin D and Nutrition Research and a Principal Investigator at the INFANT Research Centre for Maternal and Child Health. Her research programme focusses on micronutrient intakes and status and their impact on health, especially in maternal nutrition and infant development. She is particularly interested in the impact of vitamin and mineral malnutrition and the role of public policy in ensuring adequate supplies of nutrients. She has worked in vitamin D research for 25 years. Mairead is leading several large-scale international and national projects in nutrition; she is joint co-ordinator of the Horizon Europe funded Zero_Hidden_Hunger_EU project and co-leads the Nutrition and Health Platform at the Co-Centre for Sustainable Food Systems. She is a member of the UK Scientific Advisory Committee for Nutrition (SACN) and was elected to the Royal Irish Academy in 2022 on the basis of excellence in nutrition science.
