Biography

I'm a lecturer (below-the-bar) in the School of Physics specialising in astrophysics. Prior to this position I was a Royal Society Newton International Fellow at the Jodrell Bank Centre for Astrophysics (JBCA) at the University of Manchester, a postdoctoral researcher in Prof. Rene Breton's ERC funded spiders group (also at JBCA), and then a Government of Ireland Postdoctoral Fellow at University College Cork where I worked with Prof. Paul Callanan.

My research is mainly focses on constraining the nuclear equation of state via applying constraints on the most massive neutron stars in the Milky way. This is done through the study of rapidly rotating neutron stars which are orbiting low mass companions (the so-called spider systems).

I am also interested in the observed mass-gap between massive neutron stars and light black holes, and whether we can detect black holes in a similar binary configuration to spiders via large sensitive optical surveys such as GOTO and Vera Ruben's LSST survey.
