Biography

Professor Michael Maher, MD, FRCSI, FRCR, FFR(RCSI). Michael Maher graduated from Trinity College Dublin in 1989. After internship in the Meath and Adelaide hospitals in Dublin, he completed a surgical residency in Cork University Hospital. He received his Fellowship of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 1993 (FRCSI). Following this, he completed a two-year postdoctoral research fellowship at the Department of Surgery, John Hopkins Medical Institutions, Baltimore USA. The degree Of Doctor of Medicine (MD) by thesis was granted by Trinity College, Dublin in June 1996. He began a radiology residency at the Mater Misericordiae Hospital in Dublin in July 1995. He received his Fellowship of the Royal College of Radiologists (UK) (FRCR) in 1999 and Fellowship of the Faculty of Radiologists of the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland (FFR(RCSI)) in the same year. He then began a Fellowship in Abdominal Imaging and Interventional Radiology at Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and Harvard Medical School in July 2000. In July 2002, he took up the position of staff radiologist in the Divisions of Abdominal Imaging and Intervention and Thoracic Radiology at the Massachusetts General Hospital in Boston and as Instructor in Radiology at Harvard Medical School. In July 2004, he was promoted to Assistant Professor in Radiology at Harvard Medical School. In July 2005, he was certified by the American Board of Radiology. In July 2005, he was appointed the first Professor of Radiology at UCC and Consultant Radiologist at Cork University Hospital and Mercy University Hospital, Cork.
