Dr Mohamed Sharafeldin is a Lecturer in Chemistry at University College Cork. His research focuses on developing innovative biosensors and analytical technologies for healthcare diagnostics, drug and food analysis, and quality control. He designs low-cost, highly sensitive platforms for real-time detection of proteins, small molecules, and disease biomarkers.

Before joining UCC, he was a Lecturer at the University of Otago (2022-2024), and previously worked as psotdoctoral researcher at University of Oxford (2019-2022). He has secured competitive research funding from organisations including Cancer Research UK, the Analytical Chemistry Trust Fund, and Health Research Council of New Zealand.  

Dr Sharafeldin is an active member of the Royal Society of Chemistry and the New Zealand Institute of Chemistry. Alongside his research, he is passionate about teaching, mentoring students, and engaging the public through science outreach activities that make chemistry accessible and exciting for all ages.
