Dr. Musannif Shah is a Postdoctoral Researcher at Tyndall National Institute, University College Cork. His research focuses on the modelling, simulation, and optimisation of advanced energy systems, with particular expertise in building energy performance, energy retrofits, and integrated low-carbon technologies.
At Tyndall, Dr. Shah contributes to major Horizon Europe projects, including DigiFab and Herit4Ages, where he conducts dynamic building energy and comfort simulations using DesignBuilder, TRNSYS, and EnergyPlus to support retrofit strategies for heritage, residential and commercial buildings. His work involves conducting detailed energy efficiency assessments, condensation risk analyses, and dynamic simulation studies to support retrofit strategies for heritage and residential buildings. He develops and calibrates performance indicators related to energy use, thermal comfort, and building resilience, and contributes to the evaluation of renovation solutions within the DigiFab and Herit4Ages projects. He also collaborates closely with consortium partners through technical discussions, co-creation workshops, and comparative analyses across diverse European building typologies and climates.
Dr. Shah’s broader research interests include techno-economic assessment of renewable and hybrid energy systems, Power-to-X pathways, waste-heat-driven cooling technologies, and green hydrogen production. Prior to joining UCC, he worked at the Italian National Research Council (CNR-ITAE) on thermally driven industrial cooling systems under the RE-WITCH project, and has conducted extensive research on biomass-based polygeneration, hydrogen systems, and district energy systems.
He has presented his work at international conferences and published in peer-reviewed journals, demonstrating a strong record in simulation-driven energy research. Dr. Shah is proficient in a range of modelling tools, including TRNSYS, pytrnsys, EnergyPlus, COMSOL, and DesignBuilder, and has actively participated in international workshops, summer schools, and collaborative research initiatives.
