Biography

I joined UCC in September 2010. I am Lecturer in the School of Applied Social Studies and Academic Lead for the id+ Futures Project. I previously worked in UCC as National Co-ordinator of the GENOVATE Project and Research Officer for SAFE(R)SPACE. Prior to my employment in UCC, I worked in the third sector for Oxfam UK and in various strategic and frontline roles in housing associations in London and Cardiff. My teaching and research interests centre of the themes of equality, human rights, gender, migration and the intersection of human rights and social policy with respect to intellectual disability (ID).

Teaching Activities

I teach social policy on undergraduate and postgraduate modules, including specific contributions based on my research and experience in the field of ID. I teach full modules on the Bachelor of Social Science, Youth & Community Work (SS1105 and SS2105) and a full module on the Bachelor of Social Science (SS30151). I also contribute to modules on the Masters in Social Policy (SS6315), the Bachelor of Social Work (SS4211). I have made contributions to SS2028 and SS6808. From 2012 - 2020, I taught full modules on the Certificate in Contemporary Living, a programme for students with intellectual disabilities: SS1825 Personal Effectiveness; SS2817 Social Science: An International Perspective SS2816 Mathematics and Financial Management; SS2819 Inclusive Studies and Research.· I previoulsy contributed to teaching, assessment, and examination of modules SS5806 Social Policy and Midwifery Practice and SS1008 Social Inclusion and Health Policy (2012 – 2013) and SS2205 European Social Policy (2010 – 2011). From 2018 - 2022, I was Coordinator of the Bachelor of Social Science First Year and coordinated SS1017, SS1018 and SS1012. I am Academic Director, Adult Continuing Education (ACE) of the Certificate in Practice Support in Social Farming. I was (Acting) Director post-graduate degree programmes: Higher Diploma and M.Soc. Social Policy programmes (Sept 2011 – June 2012; Jan – June 2017).
