Biography

Nicole Müller is professor of Speech and Hearing Sciences at University College Cork. She was born in Germany and educated in Germany, England, and Ireland. She held academic positions in England, Wales, the United States and Sweden, before joining UCC in 2017. Her research interests include clinical linguistics and phonetics, multilingualism, ageing-related impairments of cognition and communication and their psychosocial consequences, and research methods as applicable to the clinical context, specifically qualitative methods.

Research Interests • Ageing, and ageing-related disorders of communication and cognition: dementia, aphasia, acquired speech disorders, psychosocial consequences, quality of life, long-term care. • Multilingualism and multicultural issues in the context of communication and cognitive disorders • Qualitative Research in communication disorders and related disciplines • Clinical linguistics: context-embedded approaches to language and cognition; systemic functional linguistics; clinical phonetics and phonology • Intelligibility and comprehensibility as theoretical constructs and practical concerns in normal and disordered speech and language
