Biography
Dr Nina Cnockaert-Guillou (she/her) is a Post-Doctoral Researcher on the Disappearing Text Project in University College Cork. This project is funded by Taighde Érenn / Research Ireland (formerly the Irish Research Council), and aims to produce editions of the earliest version of Acallam na Senórach 'The Colloquy of the Ancients'.
Nina was previously an O’Donovan Post-Doctoral Scholar in the School of Celtic Studies at the Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies (2023–25), where she worked on the 'Reeves' Agallamh na Seanórach (see article in Zeitschrift für celtische Philologie 72 (2025)).
She holds an MA in Early and Medieval Irish from University College Cork, and a PhD from the Department of Anglo-Saxon, Norse and Celtic at the University of Cambridge. Her doctoral thesis is a study of the medieval Irish story of the three men and the dog of Irúath, which survives in poetic and prosimetric forms in manuscripts ranging in date from the twelfth to the nineteenth century, including as part of Acallam na Senórach. Her thesis won the Johann-Kaspar-Zeuß-Prize of the Societas Celtologica Europaea for the best PhD thesis in Celtic Studies in 2025 (for theses awarded in 2024).
Nina is particularly interested in Digital Humanities and Digital Editing, and she was a Research Assistant on the ‘Mapping the Medieval Mind’ dindshenchas project (Cambridge) and on the 'Developing a Digital Framework for the Medieval Gaelic World' project (IRC-AHRC).
She was part of the Association of Celtic Students (Social Media and Communications Officer 2019–23, Chairperson 2023–24) and she created the Celtic Students Podcast in 2020. She was also part of the production team of the "Ní hansae" podcast (the DIAS School of Celtic Studies Research Podcast) for season 2 in 2025. Nina is currently the Social Media officer of the Societas Celtologica Europaea (2025–).
