Biography

Nóirín McCarthy is a Senior lecturer in Economics and a founding member of the Spatial and Regional Economics Centre at the Cork University Business School, University College Cork, Ireland.  Nóirín was awarded her PhD from the University of Sheffield in the United Kingdom in 2016.  She holds a Masters in Economic Science and Bachelor of Commerce degree from University College Cork. 

 

Nóirín’s research interests lies in the fields of the economics of innovation, including eco-innovation, regional economics and the labour market.  Her published work has explored the role of entrepreneurship in economic growth, innovation within firms, as well as sustainable regional economic development. As a member of the Spatial and Regional Economics Research Centre, she was part of the team that received an award for University College Cork Research Team of the Year in 2020. Her research has been published in leading academic journals including Regional Studies,  Journal of Business Research and the International Journal of Innovation Management.

Research Interests

Nóirín’s research interests lies in the fields of the economics of innovation, including eco-innovation, regional economics and the labour market.  

Teaching Activities

Nóirín teaches undergraduate students on the BSc Applied Economics, BCommerce, BSc International Business with Languages programmes.
