Biography

Dr Nora McCarthy is a Lecturer in Medical Education, UCC since 2010. She is joint Academic and Assessment Co-coordinator at Mercy University Hospital clinical site.From 2014 to 2017 she was lead of a work package in the FP7 proposal S-HELP (Securing Health Emergency Learning Planning), an international consortium aimed at developing a new standard in crisis management. This work package involved the design, delivery and evaluation of training modules using virtual and role-based simulation and appropriate assessment methods. Subsequently, Dr McCarthy completed a PhD on the topic “Creation of a Framework for Educators and Learners to Enable Best Practice in Assessment Development for a Digital Learning Environment”. The completion of a Masters in Maritime Medicine complimented the development and delivery of a novel curriculum for medical students in maritime medicine.The Visual Thinking Strategies (VTS) programme in the College of Medicine and Health seeks to enhance critical thinking through the medium of art while promoting collaboration among peers. Dr McCarthy is a facilitator in VTS in UCC and encourages students to transfer the developed skills to the clinical environment. Dr McCarthy leads the co-ordination of Erasmus student exchange programmes in UCC School of Medicine.
