Patrick O'Sullivan

Dr. Patrick O'Sullivan's research focus is on law and compliance within financial institutions and other organizations. His PhD examined the European Union’s response to the 2008 financial crisis via State aid and bank resolution policies. 

Patrick also has an interest in constitutional law and social policy and lectures a course examining Irish Constitutional law for adult learners. Patrick has published in the European Business Law Review and The Journal of Computer, Media and Telecommunications Law and Irish legal journals such as the Commercial Law Practitioner. He has also presented his research across both national and international conferences.

In Patrick’s previous role as a researcher in the GRCTC Research Centre, he developed a Conduct Risk Assessment Model with Prof. Tom Butler and Dr. Mary Daly. This project was successful in receiving funding from Enterprise Ireland to develop a software-based Conduct Risk Assessment Model prototype.

Patrick has also examined the information technology risks within organizations across different industries. More recently, Patrick has conducted research on the use of AI within third level education in Ireland. Patrick's research interest in AI also includes examining the wider impact this development will have on society and the economy. 

Patrick  holds a BCL, LLM and PhD as well as an International Diploma in Anti-Money Laundering Compliance from the International Compliance Association. This relationship with the International Compliance Association has continued with Patrick publishing compliance analyses for their membership. 

This interest in the compliance sector has seen Patrick examine the increasing role of sustainability and responsible leadership within industry and this interest dovetails with his current work in supporting CUBS membership of PRME. This is a United Nations initiative to promote responsible leadership education within business schools across the world.
