Biography

Professor / Consultant Oral Surgeon/ Dean Qualifications: BDS, PGDip(TLHE), MSc(Consc Sed), PhD, MFD, FFD(OS), FDS(OS)RCSI Professor Paul Brady is a Consultant Oral Surgeon and Dean of Cork University Dental School and Hospital (CUDSH). Paul completed a Master’s degree in conscious sedation from the University of Newcastle Upon Tyne in 2012. In 2017, he completed a PhD at UCC on “The efficacy and effectiveness of capnography monitoring during intravenous conscious sedation with midazolam for oral surgery”. He has published numerous articles and was winner of the Unilever Senior Clinical Research Hatton award in 2018. He was awarded a H.R.B. Research training fellowship which enabled him to spend time at the University of Pittsburgh in the United States during 2015 and 2016. He was awarded an FDS in Oral Surgery from The Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland in 2018. He is the director for the postgraduate oral surgery training programme at CUDSH.

Research Interests

My research interests include dental anxiety and respiratory monitoring during conscious sedation. My PhD research involved monitoring patient respiration during intravenous conscious sedation using capnography.

A summary of my teaching: Lectures to undergraduate dental students in 1st, 3rd ,4th and 5th years (modules OH1001, PT3201, DS4004 and DS5001) Tutorials to final BDS (DS5001) Supervision and assessment of clinical work during clinics for 4th and 5th year students Lecturing on dental nurse training course Basic Life Support Instructor delivering BLS courses to undergraduates, postgraduates, and CPD for dental professionals (nurses, dentists and hygienists). Supervising and evaluating dental hygienists administering local anaesthetic
