Professor Rícheal Ní Ríordáin is a Professor/Consultant in Oral Medicine in Cork University Dental School and Hospital. She has worked both in medicine and dentistry and her research interests include patient reported outcomes and educational research with an MA in Higher Education and a PhD in Oral Medicine. Prof Ní Ríordáinwas the Oral Health Research Fellow with the International Consortium for Health Outcomes Measurement and is currently a member of the Steering Committee for the World Workshop on Oral Medicine.
Professor Ni Riordain's PhD, in which she developed and validated an Oral Medicine specific quality of life questionnaire for patients with chronic oral mucosa disease, was the foundation of her work as an independent researcher. Since then, she has published over 100 articles in peer-reviewed journals, designed multiple research projects at Masters and Doctoral level and supervised over 30 research students to completion. Prof Ni Riordain an active member of the British, European and American Oral Medicine societies along with the Association of Dental Education in Europe, presenting annually at meetings in the US and Europe. She is a Steering Committee Member for the forthcoming World Workshop on Oral Medicine X. Professor Ní Ríordáin's teaching experience spans over 20 years across dentistry, medicine, music and education, with excellent student-feedback over the two decades. She has taught Oral Medicine at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels; with recent recognition of her educational expertise in her appointment by Health Education England as Regional Dental Academic and Research Advisor for London and Kent Surrey Sussex. In 2018 she completed a MA in Teaching and Learning in Higher Eduction with a dissertation based on universal design for learning. Along with teaching commitments in the Dental School, she has also held a role as a Teaching Fellow with the Centre for the Integration of Research, Teaching and Learning in UCC contributing to teaching on the PGCert TLHE. Prof Ní Ríordáin is a recipient of the Association for Dental Education in European Excellence in Dental Education Award (Early Career) in 2020 and was appointed as co-programme director for the DClinDent in Oral Surgery in 2021.
