Personal profile
Biography
I am a Senior Postdoctoral Researcher at the School of Applied Psychology. My work is centred on the Responsible Software Engineering (RSE) project, which explores how societal and personal concerns can be meaningfully integrated into software development. The aim is to promote development practices and software outcomes that are not only technologically sound but also socio-technical in nature. To achieve this, we examine both the experiences of users and the public, as well as the impact of RSE principles on software engineers involved in designing, maintaining, and evolving software systems. In addition, I have been currently contributing to BEHAV-I-AIR, a project focused on communication strategies and the co-design of a digital platform that empowers citizens to take action toward cleaner air and protective behaviours against air pollution. I have a PhD in Social Sciences - Interaction, Communication, Cultural Construction from the University of Padova (Italy), and I have always been interested in citizen engagement in relation to science, technology and innovation. I had five years of practical experience working within a regional public administration to support digitalisation. My current research reflection and academic production focus on the debate about the design of technology, platforms and services to support empowerment, inclusion and sustainability, with attention to gender and other inequalities. Research Interests
The common thread of my research path has been the attention to the dynamics of interaction between different human and non-human actors in the construction of technoscientific knowledge and artifacts, with particular attention to the power dynamics involved. Initially, this translated into the observation of the co-construction of decisions and knowledge within processes involving the relationship between technoscience, society and environment. My theoretical and methodological frameworks were mainly related to Science and Technology Studies, with particular attention for political science and political sociology. In recent years this path has led me to take advantage of this background in the discussion about Participatory Design, with particular attention to the study of technologies aimed at issues such as social innovation, inclusion, power inequalities, economic and environmental sustainability. My current research reflection and academic production focus on the debate about the design of technology, platforms and services to support a more just society, through the analysis of processes of infrastructuring, institutioning, commoning and the role of intermediaries in social innovation projects.
