Personal profile

Biography

I joined University College Cork in 2015 after completing my PhD in Higher Education Strategic Planning. I am the Civic Engagement Programme Coordinator based in UCC's Centre for Integration Research, Teaching and Learning (CIRTL) within the Office of the V.P. for Learning and Teaching. I actively support the integration of civic engagement in the curriculum and work directly with staff to support them to embed community-engaged learning in their teaching approaches. I coordinate a Postgraduate Community-based Participatory Research module (PG6025) for cross-discipline PhD students, which in its first iteration won the UCC president's Teaching and Learning Award. I am co-conveyor for Campus Engage national working group on Community-based Learning and Teaching. I am a board of director for the Westgate Foundation, Ballincollig and the Chair of Westgate Foundation's marketing sub-committee. In 2015, I was the sole recipient of Quality and Qualifications Ireland (QQI) awards for my PhD research, which involved identifying the strategic priorities of Ireland's senior higher education managers. My thesis offered a comparison between the public and the private HE sectors in relation to how they set, implement and achieve their strategic priorities, against a particularly challenging economic backdrop. My interest in higher education strategic planning remains prominent, particularly through my work in influencing and driving UCC's strategic plan as it relates to civic engagement.
