Biography

Saira Bano is a Post-Doctoral Researcher at APC Microbiome Ireland, University College Cork. She completed her PhD in Biology at Shanghai Jiao Tong University, China, with a research focus on environmental microbial ecology, soil microbiomes, microbial community dynamics, and nitrogen cycling.

Her research experience includes DNA extraction, qPCR, microbial culturing, oxic and anoxic microcosm experiments, gas flux measurements, high-throughput sequencing data analysis, amplicon sequencing, metagenomics, metagenome-assembled genome reconstruction, microbial co-occurrence network analysis, and statistical analysis in R.

Her current research interests include microbiome science, early-life microbiome research, shotgun metagenomics, microbial community profiling, and microbiome signatures related to food, microbiome, and health.
