My research examines the ecological and agricultural impacts of bird damage on cereal crops in Ireland, working with my PI, Professor John Quinn. I am investigating the patterns and drivers of bird-related crop damage across agricultural landscapes using a combination of field ecology, drone-based monitoring, and spatial techniques. My research aims to develop sustainable and evidence-based mitigation strategies, working closely with farmers and other stakeholders and is funded by the National Parks and Wildlife Service.
My background is in human–wildlife interactions and conservation, particularly in urban environments and the human dimensions of wildlife conservation. During my PhD, I investigated the spatio-temporal and social dimensions of human–wildlife interactions, with a particular focus on public perceptions, attitudes, and conflicts associated with urban wildlife. My previous research has also explored how changes in human activity influence wildlife behaviour and movement, including animal–vehicle collisions during the COVID-19 lockdown.
I am broadly interested in human–wildlife coexistence, wildlife conservation, agroecology, urban ecology, biodiversity conservation, and applied ecological research. My work combines ecological fieldwork, spatial analysis, drone technology, and social science approaches, with a strong emphasis on integrating research into practical wildlife and land management strategies and on collaborating closely with local communities, farmers, and other stakeholders.
