Biography

Dr Seán Lucey is the Research Manager in the College of Business and Law. This role involves leading on research strategies, management of research funding, and promotion of inter-disciplinary research. I hold multiple leadership positions and sit on the College's Executive Management Committees. Between 2019 and 2022 I was also the College Head of Graduate Studies (Research) with responsibility for the leadership and strategic development of research education. I also have an academic and research profile in history of healthcare in Ireland and Britain. I have multiple publications in these fields and am currently writing a new monograph, examining health and management in twentieth-century Northern Ireland which will be published by Manchester University Press. I am currently on the Management Committee of the COST Action project National, International and Transnational Histories of Healthcare, 1850-2000 (EuroHealthHist) [for further details see https://www.cost.eu/actions/CA22159/#tabs+Name:Description_} I have won research grants from the Irish Research Council, Royal Irish Academy and British Academy and worked on projects funded by the Arts & Humanities Research Council (U.K.), Economic & Social Research Council (U.K. and Wellcome Trust. I have a teaching and research background in the history of hospital, public health, comparative and regional health systems, and residential/institutional welfare and care. His work has a wide geographical scope and concentrates on developments in Ireland -- both north and south -- and Great Britain.
