Biography
Dr. Shauna Creane is a Lecturer in Physical Geography specialising in Metocean and Marine Geoscience in UCC Department of Geography. She is the co-Director of the UCC Postgraduate Certificate in Metocean for Offshore Wind.
Dr. Creane is a multidisciplinary researcher who focusses on the interaction between meteorological, oceanographic and sediment transport processes over different time spans, to answer complex research questions that aims to support the sustainable use of marine and coastal resources during the energy transition. She has extensive offshore sampling, seabed mapping, and site investigation experience, having participated in nine offshore surveys, including two as Chief Scientist. The collected offshore datasets are combined with numerical modelling techniques to provide crucial insights into flow dynamics, wave propagation, and sediment dynamics, and the interaction of these natural phenomena with coastal and offshore infrastructure, and other anthropogenic activities.
She is also a qualified Metocean Engineer and Marine Geoscientist with over six years of industry experience working with a specialist engineering consultancy, focussing on met-ocean modelling and sediment transport-related scopes of work for coastal infrastructure and offshore wind farm developments. She also works as a Marine Processes Consultant for An Coimisiún Pleanála reviewing planning applications for offshore projects. She is a Chartered Marine Geoscientist with IGI and EurGeol.
