Biography

Sinéad Creedon is a Lecturer and PhD scholar at the School of Public Health, since she joined the faculty in 2021. Her academic and clinical expertise lies in Infection Prevention and Control (IPC), Infectious Diseases, Tropical Medicine, and Quality Patient Safety (QPS).

Sinéad brings a diverse professional background, having trained as a nurse and subsequently specialising in IPC. She has held leadership roles in IPC and has a strong interest in change management and behaviour change strategies within healthcare settings.

Sinéad is a registered general nurse (RGN) with postgraduate nursing qualifications in infectious diseases & tropical medicine, infection prevention & control, and teaching & learning in clinical settings.

Other qualifications include a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) and a Master’s in Applied Psychology (with a focus on positive and coaching psychology), and a postgraduate Certificate in Teaching & Learning. She also coaches healthcare professionals in areas such as burnout prevention, leadership development, and strengths-based practice.

During the COVID-19 pandemic, Sinéad served as a Clinical Nurse Specialist in IPC within the Health Service Executive (HSE), where she played a pivotal role in coordinating IPC during the pandemic as well as coordinating the national Peer Vaccination Programmes for both Influenza and COVID-19.

Research Interests

Sinead is a PhD scholar (Medicine and Health) and her research topic is entitled "Supporting frontline infection control practitioners emotionally and psychologically during and after public health crisis events, using the COVID 19 pandemic as the catalyst for positive change in healthcare settings".

Teaching Activities

Sinéad is the Academic Programme Director for the Postgraduate Certificate in Infection Prevention & Control (IPC) and coordinates the two IPC modules. She also teaches the only IPC module for the Masters in IPC, and contributes to teaching on the BSc Public Health Sciences and Health Protection programmes.

  • Successfully co-awarded €4,950 from Leading Healthcare Providers Skillnet (2024-2026) to conduct a Competency-based Evaluation of a Postgraduate Certificate in Infection Prevention and Control, from 2020 – 2023.
