Biography
Dr. Sonja Vucen graduated with a MPharm degree from the University of Banja Luka, Bosnia and Herzegovina in 2005. After working in the community pharmacy and at the University of Banja Luka as a teaching assistant for a number of years, she moved to Ireland in 2011 and joined Dr. Anne Moore’s and Dr. Abina Crean’s research group at UCC as a research assistant, focusing primarily on the development and optimization the dissolvable microneedle platform technology for transdermal and topical drug delivery. In 2013, she completed a PhD in Pharmaceutical science and technology at the Faculty of Pharmacy, University of Belgrade, Serbia. Upon completion of her PhD, Dr. Vucen continued working as a post-doctoral researcher with the same research group at UCC. In 2014 Dr. Vucen was appointed as a lecturer in the School of Pharmacy at UCC. She is involved in both undergraduate and postgraduate teaching in the area of pharmaceutical science and technology.
Research Interests
Dr Vucen’s general research interests involve the development of micro and nanoparticles for targeted and controlled drug delivery, the formulation and characterization of novel drug delivery systems for topical and transdermal application and the development and optimization of novel processes to produce a dissolvable microneedle drug delivery systems.
