Personal profile

Biography

Having completed a BA (2005), MA (2007) and PhD (2011) in Celtic Studies in Queen's University Belfast, I moved to Dublin Institute for Advanced Studies to pursue a three-year postdoctoral scholarship, following which I took up a lectureship in Cork in 2014.

Research Interests

My primary research interests are the history, development and social function of Gaelic song in Ireland, Scotland and the Isle of Man, as well as among the Gaelic diaspora. I am particularly interested in women's songs (laments, lullabies, labour-songs and panegyrics); the Jacobite song tradition; songs which have been absorbed into Gaelic from other traditions; and songs which have undergone a considerable degree of remoulding within the tradition and therefore exist in a number of different variants.

Teaching Activities

My teaching interests include: Gaelic song and folktale; modern Gaelic literature; Scottish Gaelic.
