Biography

I am a senior lecturer and currently researching issues of justice that arise in relation to global climate change, cosmopolitanism and transnational democracy. I have published two monographs relating to these topics and am currently researching a third. I have a long standing interest in critical social theory, political theory, social movements research, global ethics, discourse, frame and cultural analysis. I am UCC lead in a Horizon 2020 project (JUSTNORTH, 2020-23) on democratic inclusivity and the realisation of sustainable development goals for the Arctic regions; PI on a newly funded IRC (New Foundations) project entitled 'Making Wild Lives Matter: Exploring the transformative potential of everyday encounters with wild urban nature and their contribution to eco-smart urban living’ (ECO-CONNECT), as well as a member of the UCC team leading an EU Erasmus Alliance for Innovation (chAnGE). I am a member of the editorial board of the journal The Sociological Review as well as Sociological Research Online and a board member of The Sociological Review Foundation, a registered charity committed to advancing public knowledge of sociology internationally.

Research Interests

Research interests include critical theory, climate justice, human rights, global justice, intergenerational inequalities, border practices, sociology of the body, European identity, cosmopolitanism, collective memory, trauma, models of democracy.
