Biography

BioI am a Lecturer in Ethics at University College Cork, with a background in philosophy, feminist theory, and critical approaches to healthcare. My research explores how ethical and political frameworks intersect with issues of gender, sexuality, and care. I hold a PhD in Philosophy from Sapienza University of Rome and have held research and teaching positions at Trinity College Dublin, Charles University in Prague, and the University of Glasgow. At the School of Nursing and Midwifery, I am the Year Coordinator for the 4th year Undergraduate programme, module leader for modules at undergraduate and postgraduate level. I am currently supervising UG, MA and Ph.D. students. I am a member of the research group J.U.S.T.I.C.E. and founder and board member of the research group Trans Research Alliance Network for Students and Staff UCC. I am part of the School of Nursing And Midwifery’s Athena SWAN committee and the External Communication committee. I collaborate with Social Research Ethics Committee. Outside UCC, I am a board member of the Society of Women in Philosophy Ireland and of the Professional Association for Trans Healthcare Ireland. Research Interests

valeria's research interests lies in feminism, queer theory, ethics and ethics of care, bioethics, political philosophy, legal theory, and social justice. She is also interested in utopian studies, affect theory, transgender studies and critical midwifery. The nature of her work is interdisciplinary with a strong philosophical focus. Her research has mainly addressed the impact of inclusive policies and identity rights on marginalised individuals. she has a strong interest in all things surrounding motherhood and maternity (from abortion to surrogacy, from IVF to gender inclusion in maternity services). Her research is currently focusing on critical midwifery and questions around trans healthcare, as well as on care as a paradigm to redefine the state and other institutional settings. She is curious about the impact of new technologies on bodies and the common understanding of sex and gender. DIY and anarchic practices of care are among her favourite things to explore.
