Biography
Dr Yasmine Ahmed is Lecturer at University College Cork. She holds a Bachelor Degree in Psychological Sciences and Techniques, from the Università degli Studi di Torino, Italy, an MA in Criminology from University College Cork, and a PhD in Criminology from University College Cork. She is co-chair of the ISS21 Populism and the Rise of the Far-Right cluster (https://www.ucc.ie/en/iss21/clusters/populismandtheriseofthefar-right/) under ISS21 – the institute for the Social Science in the 21st century. Yasmine also co-directs the MA/PgCert/PgDip in Trauma Studies, a joint program in collaboration between Sociology and Criminology at UCC, ACE - Adults Continuing Education in UCC-and WAVE Trauma Center, a cross community victim group supporting victims of the troubles in Northern Ireland. She teaches victimology and Trauma as well as Research Methods to students in the Trauma Studies course. She also teaches in the BA criminology in UCC Introduction to the Psychology of Crime to first year students as well as teaching a module on Terrorism and Organized Crime to MA students. Her primary research focus is on the far-right , its recent developments globally and in Ireland and how it is talked about and perceived in and out of the Terrorism Studies literature. She is sole editor of “The far-right in Ireland: rise, activities an international links” (Bristol University press, upcoming), co-author of “Reflections on Irish Criminology: Conversations with Criminologists” ( Palgrave Macmillan, 2020 ) and co-editor of “Nothing about us without us: giving voice to diversity in criminological research” (Bristol University press 2021).
