Research Interests

Dr. Yvonne O’Connor is a Senior Lecturer in Business Information Systems at Cork University Business School, University College Cork, specialising in the ethical and responsible design, use, and governance of information systems in everyday life, with particular emphasis on digital consent processes, dark patterns, and AI-enabled systems. Her research spans the ethical implications of data collection informed consent and decision-making in digital environments, especially in health information systems, exploring how consent is obtained, experienced, and understood by diverse users, including vulnerable populations such as those living with dementia. Dr. O’Connor has an extensive publication record in high-impact journals and international conferences and serves on multiple editorial boards in digital health and e-health technology. She contributes to interdisciplinary research projects, holds research funding from national and international bodies, and aligns her work with key Sustainable Development Goals, making her an experienced and impactful leader.
