Abstract

This work was stimulated by recent observations of negative deviations from Raoult's law in adsorbed mixtures, especially at high coverage approaching saturation. These activity coefficients are calculated for the average composition of the adsorbed solution, a source of error because the actual composition varies on a heterogeneous surface. The objective is to develop a heterogeneous extension of the homogeneous theory of ideal adsorbed solutions (IAS).
