An identification tag for sea mammals

Abstract

The design of an identification tag for sea mammals was discussed. Three constraints determine the design of an identification tag which are: it must remain with the animal over 2 years, it must provide id beyond 50 m range, and it must be provide a unique signal in the presence of similarly marked animals. For realtime detection of many tags it is envisioned the use of a dedicated digital signal processor. Device coding and transponding protocol were achieved via a PIC controller mounted within the tube along with a 1.3 Ahr battery.
