An upstream reach-extender for 10Gb/s PON applications based on an optimised semiconductor amplifier cascade

Abstract

We present a reach-extender based on a semiconductor amplifier cascade which achieves 12dB compression of the input dynamic range whilst also limiting patterning. A 70km reach is demonstrated over a 32-split 10Gb/s passive optical network.
