Abstract

Capillary electrophoresis was used to analyze uric acid in urine. Among several buffers tested, phosphate buffer was found to yield the best results, in close agreement with enzymatic assays utilizing urate oxidase. Ascorbic acid, gentisic acid, caffeine, theophylline, theobromine, glucose, acetyl salicylic acid and acetaminophen did not interfere with the uric acid determination. Analyses of uric acid concentrations in reconstituted serum samples also yielded results in satisfactory agreement with those obtained by enzymatic assays and the value provided by the supplier.
