Abstract

The paper presents a space vector model for the torque production mechanism of the Permanent Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) which is valid for arbitrary motor line current and spatial machine flux linkage waveforms. Motor torque ripple due to the interaction of time harmonics of the current with spatial flux linkage harmonics is considered. The objective of this paper is to investigate the major sources of torque ripple in modern permanent magnet servomotor drives employing digital torque control. Each of the significant motor, inverter and controller non-idealities is considered separately and presented as an equivalent voltage disturbance of the torque controller. Simulation results are presented to validate this approach.
