Abstract
Wavelet Packet Modulation (WPM) is an orthogonal multi-rate modulation technique employing configurable wavelet packet basis functions as carrier pulse shapes. WPM offers flexible channel partitioning according to the choice of signal space decomposition in a wavelet packet basis. This paper outlines some efficient analytical techniques for estimating the reliability of such a WPM scheme subject to any linear time invariant distortion and applies these estimation techniques to an exhaustive search for the optimal, or close to optimal, signal space decomposition.
