Abstract

The present chapter continues the description of the pharmaceutical applications of biomolecules that was started in the previous one. However, here we shift our focus onto production and design strategies. We begin by presenting different biopharmaceutical processing technologies, highlighting the role of continuous manufacturing and molecular biology tools in improving production yield and quality. Finally, prompted by the recent advances of the pharmaceutical sector, we provide the reader with a road map for implementing “Quality-by-Design” in the development of biopharmaceuticals.
