Blarney Community Assets and Needs Survey. Avondhu Development Group, Cork.

The Blarney Community Assets and Needs Survey was undertaken by Avondhu Development Group to provide a comprehensive assessment of the strengths, resources, opportunities, and challenges within the Blarney community. The survey aimed to capture the views and experiences of residents, community organisations, businesses, and stakeholders to inform future community development planning and support evidence-based decision-making. The study explored a broad range of themes, including community facilities, social inclusion, health and wellbeing, recreation and leisure, transport, housing, environmental sustainability, local services, and opportunities for economic and social development. Particular emphasis was placed on identifying existing community assets that contribute to quality of life, while also highlighting unmet needs, service gaps, and priorities for future investment.Findings from the survey demonstrate a strong sense of community identity and civic engagement in Blarney, supported by a range of valued local assets and voluntary initiatives. At the same time, respondents identified areas requiring attention, including infrastructure improvements, enhanced community facilities, accessibility, youth and older-person supports, sustainable transport options, and opportunities for greater community participation.The survey provides an important evidence base for strategic planning and community-led action. By documenting local perspectives and priorities, it offers practical guidance for community organisations, statutory agencies, and policymakers seeking to strengthen social, economic, and environmental wellbeing in Blarney. The results will support collaborative efforts to build on existing strengths, address emerging challenges, and promote sustainable and inclusive community development for the future.
