Abstract
Blood glucose monitoring devices (BGMD) have been significantly improved during the last few decades, enabling more efficient diabetic monitoring and management. The current generation of BGMD equipped with miniaturised test strips and advanced features provides rapid response, high specificity and improved calibration using a simplified measurement procedure. Both analytically superior chemistries and better test strip design enable the processing of a minimal sample, which results in a painless sample uptake. The devices have powerful internal memory, wireless and Cloud connectivity, multiuser support, and integrated diabetic software management. This chapter provides an overview of the developments in BGMD along with the prospects and the growing trend towards wearable BGMD and mobile healthcare.
