Abstract
After a long period of stigmatization, translation is once again taking a prominent place in language teaching (Díaz Ferrero & García Benito 2020; Mraček 2015; Carreres et al. 2018). This article documents the implementation of translation and mediation materials fo-cussed on Galician author Rosalía de Castro in a third-level SFL classroom in the Irish educational context. From the lens of playful pedagogy (Nørgård 2021, 2024; Sobral & Santucci 2024), I argue the importance of carving spaces for creativity and playfulness in the language classroom, not only as a means towards meaningful learning, but also as a path of resistance against the division between language and literary studies, rather entrenched in higher education environments.
