    Abstract

This paper presents two methods of designing the position-free inductive coupler in wireless power transfer (WPT) applications. One is the improved position of transmitting coil and another is the customized magnetic shield design. By implementing the genetic algorithm (GA) as a design assistance, these two methods target at achieving homogeneous-flux distribution at the receiving coil side. However, different design complexity, calculating effort and results are obtained. The comparison is given in this paper together with finite-element-analysis (FEA) simulation and experimental result. Finally, a 6.78 MHz 48V-I2V experimental prototype is demonstrated to verify the analysis.
