Abstract
Operational mechanism of optical endoscope operating on the confocal microscopy principle using liquid crystal (LC) optics, is discussed. The front-end tip design of the fiber-optic endoscope enables three dimensional scanning which comprises two liquid crystal deflectors for transverse (X-Y) angular scan. Broadband nature of LC operations makes the endoscope multi- task equipment. The probe tip in-line LC design act as a small endoscope that enables normal imaging of biological samples. A complete image is created by imaging a single point one by one using the endoscope tip.
