Abstract

The authors regret that due to our erroneous handling of various versions of the manuscript and referencing, the third paragraph of the introduction needs to be replaced with the following text: Looking closer at the environmental threats that the BRI generates through commerce, investment, and infrastructure, it may have immense negative impacts on the environment that may jeopardize the advantages of socio-economic development it aims to bring (Ascensão et al., 2018). The environmental consequences of the proposed and expected investment projects under BRI are multifarious, as summarized by Coenen et al. (2021). These studies have certainly provided powerful insights for the policy makers to highlight areas where environmental conservation and management have been beneficial at the BRI scale. But they rarely provided the social-ecological challenges and their co-occurrences within BRI economic corridors. Coenen, J.; Bager, S.; Meyfroidt, P.; Newig, J.; Challies, E.
