Abstract
This article examines the construction of gender through Tourneur's handling of mise en scene and narrative in his 1944 film,Experiment Perilous. Locating it within a broader genre context, and paying reference to Tourneur's interest in psychoanalysis, it is argued that the film offers a subversive take on the genre.
