Abstract

De tribus regibus mortuis (Of the three dead kings) is a short English poem which survives in one manuscript of the early fifteenth century. It is the only complete narrative in Middle English writing of the Legend of the Three Living and the Three Dead, a widespread medieval exemplum on transience and a popular subject in late medieval iconography in Britain and Continental Europe.
