Abstract

In this paper, a grating-assisted mode coupler is experimentally demonstrated on the silicon-on-insulator platform. The mode coupling occurs at 1543 nm with a 3 dB bandwidth of ∼5.5 nm and extinction ratio of ∼20 dB.
