DIGITAL TRANSFORMATIONS WITHIN CF HEALTHCARE

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingsChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Digital transformation has many definitions and is often associated with the digitising of processes, but at its core, it focuses on strategy over specific technology. Within healthcare, digital transformation is ubiquitous and is often implemented and used before being fully realised by medical professionals. This chapter highlights some digital transformations within CF care that have already been realised within some CF centres, and other more nascent examples on the horizon. The digital transformations included are the use of the internet, genetic digital databases, electronic health records, artificial intelligence, portable devices, gamification, and virtual reality. For each section, a leading example is provided and summarised with emphasis on its overall strategy. Finally, this chapter also briefly highlights some barriers to digital transformation.
