Abstract
This chapter discusses how acquisition, transportation, and usage of objects are important in the construction of the sense of home in migration. Objects contribute to the sense of continuity as well as creating ruptures in experiences of displacement. The existing literature into home-objects in migrants’ lives, although scattered and under-developed, offers valuable insights into the relationship between objects and wider concepts such as diasporic groups, host countries’ populations and ʼnations’. This chapter argues how home-objects help migrants to distinguish emotionally between homely and unhomely spaces. The analysis offered here helps engaging further with debates around materialities in migration studies.
