Distribution Generation Optimization and Energy Management

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingsChapterpeer-review

Abstract

This chapter provides an introduction to optimization and energy management for distributed generation (DG) systems. This includes methods for the size of DG units and assessing the optimal locations in electricity distribution networks for connection of DG. Some basic principles of optimization are introduced, and examples of optimization of the size and location of DG units are presented. This chapter also discusses the optimal power flow and voltage optimization problems in the context of DG. In addition to this, the concept of the microgrid is introduced, and the applications of microgrids to the coordination and management of DG are discussed. After studying this chapter, the reader should be familiar with the most important concepts of DG optimization and energy management, and should be able to carry out basic calculations on DG sizing and location optimization.
