Abstract
Novel media-editing tools, such as deepfake technology, are used to create misinformation and disinformation. Designing interventions to challenge deepfake conspiracy theories is crucial. Well-intentioned deepfake interventions may counterintuitively cause more harm than good by undermining trust in media.
