Abstract
Although remembering and memory have become one of the most important topics in the field of literature as well as in modern literary and cultural studies, literary didactics in German as a Foreign Language has so far shown little interest in this development. The article explores the potential of memory literature for culture-based learning and the understanding of foreignness, examines the possibilities of its use in the classroom, and discusses the advantages which result from a understanding of the texts, and in particular of their aesthetic dimension.
