Exploring Islamic Masculinities through the Qur’anic Adam

Research output: Chapter in Book/Report/Conference proceedingsChapterpeer-review

Abstract

Gender and sexuality in Islamic thought and practice is intertwined with ethics and morality. The Qur’an as a text that highlights this connection presents abundant forms of stories and parables that emerge in a period of history strongly associated to the life and times of the Prophet Muhammad in the seventh century. As a prophet of God, Muhammad made effective use of Qur’anic examples to enjoin ‘good’ in society and deter the new monotheists from ‘evil and bad’ (Qur’ān 1:104).
