Abstract

Advances in power conversion technologies have highlighted the need for development of new class of magnetic components (inductors, transformers etc) with lower footprint and higher efficiency. Presently, the sizes of these magnetic components have been limited due to the use of low flux density ferrite as a core material. In this paper, the assembly and working of an amorphous ribbon transformer with low loss performance as a replacement for ferrite based ones were studied. The minimum amount of power loss of the material was measured as <750 kW/m3 at 100 kHz. The paper also shows the significant reduction in the footprint of the fabricated inductor.
