Abstract
This month's Genome Watch delves deep into the human gastrointestinal tract, describing the genome sequences of two major constituents of the gut microflora: Lactobacillus acidophilus, which is both commercially and medically important for its role as a probiotic, and Bacteroides fragilis, which, although a major constituent of the natural gut flora, is also an opportunistic pathogen that can cause an array of infections.
